The team at our UK office is pleased to have recently received one of the UK’s first “MakerBot Replicator 2” 3D Printers. What is 3D Printing?3D printing is the process of making a three-dimensional solid object of virtually any shape from a digital model. 3D printing is achieved using an additive process, where successive layers of material are laid down in different shapes. 3D printing is considered distinct from traditional machining techniques, which mostly rely on the removal of material by methods such as cutting or drilling. It can be used not only for products, prototypes, but also it can be used for medical purposes. An example of this extraordinary development of 3D printing technology has given one British man his life back. He received a 3D printed face, which can help him eat, drink and speak regularly again. Eric Moger lost a large portion of his face due to a cancerous growth that had to be removed. Most people would normally have to send off to a manufacturer to have these parts made, but with the MakerBot, we are able to produce these on side, reducing the time that it takes for us to effectively produce fantastic prototypes for our clients. For more information about how Innovate can help you with your idea.
